Charlie - Angel

CHARLIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND HAS A WONDERFUL NEW FAMILY!

Meet Charlie, a GRRR puppy who was rescued with his entire litter in Wyoming. At just 6-months old dashingly handsome Golden Retriever, Charlie, loves tennis balls and swimming. He also likes playing with toddlers, eating frozen peanut butter out of a kong and sleeping with his belly in the air. He has been a little sad lately having just lost his best buddy Clover to bone cancer.

Charlie is a wonderful Golden who walks funny, which at first was thought to be normal puppy behavior. It turns out there is nothing normal about his goofy gait. After consulting several vets, Charlie was diagnosed with OCD (osteochondritis dissecans) in his shoulders. Dr. Peterson at Wheat Ridge Veterinary Hospital performed a CAT-scan to check out the rest of his joints and bones, as Dr. Peterson's initial observations were that the elbows might be impacted, too. Much to the horror of all, it turns out Charlie's problems are significantly worse than originally expected. He does have OCD in both shoulders, the right shoulder being the worse OCD case Dr. Peterson has seen in 20 years. His left elbow also has severe OCD. He also has problems with both knees that will require surgery. In all, all four of his legs are involved.

By rescuing Charlie, GRRR already saved his life once, and with the help of the Golden Angel Fund, we have an excellent chance of saving him again. Charlie is such a special, happy, loving puppy who brings sunshine and smiles to everyone he meets. Our promise to him as a member of the GRRR family is that he will receive every opportunity to enjoy a wonderful, pain free life. His youthfulness and positive nature will surely work to his advantage during this long and slow process.

As you can see from Charlie's little pink shoulders in his first photo, he has already had the first of his surgeries and our resilient boy is responding well.  He knows in his heart that the wonderful supporters of the Golden Angel Fund love him and want him to be a “whole puppy” with all the working parts he needs. He’s an incredibly sweet fellow who has had a rough start in life. Because of you, Charlie plans to one day be able to unleash his inner Golden spirit and run, play, swim and chase tennis balls to his heart’s content with no pain – just lots and lots of Golden enthusiasm.
