Tammy - Angel
| (An update and new photo has been added below Tammy's Golden Angel story.)
Sweet, darling, blonde, ten-month old Tammy and her friend, Tanner, were found as strays out in the woods and were taken to a western slope shelter where they remained unclaimed. They weren’t wearing collars or tags, and neither one was microchipped. People who can no longer care for their “best friends” often abandon them in the country or mountains rather than pay the required fee to surrender them to a shelter. This is the worst thing they could possible do. Domestic dogs aren’t prepared for life in the wild and are exposed to all kinds of dangers. Many don’t survive. Tammy and Tanner could have frozen to death, starved or fallen prey to coyotes. Although very scared and hungry, Tammy and Tanner arrived at the shelter in fairly good shape.
Mary Kenton held her breath and rushed Tammy to see Dr. Carpenter, fearing that she might have progressive retinal atrophy. Instead, Mary breathed a huge sigh of relief when she learned Tammy has cataracts in both eyes. This condition is HIGHLY TREATABLE with surgery! Because of your kind donations, Tammy will soon be able to actually see her best friend, Tanner, and all of her rescuers. The day of her surgery will be like going from living in dark shadows to being able to see happy smiling faces, sunshine and all the wonders of the world – almost instantly! We can’t wait to hand her a stuffed toy and see her happy expression. It will be a thrill to watch her chase a ball for the very first time and act like a puppy.
GRRR made sure Tammy & Tanner were spayed & neutered, and the Golden Angel Fund will soon pay for Tammy’s cataract surgery, giving her the precious gift of sight. Both will soon be adopted by loving forever families. The Golden Angel Fund truly makes miracles happen for hundreds of Goldens like them each year. Thank you so much for your support, for loving and caring for these Golden Angels, and for giving them back their lives. |

| TAMMY'S UPDATE FROM JESSICA WELSCH
Hi, I’m Tammy and I’m proud and grateful to be a GRRR Golden Angel. Under doctor’s orders, I was moved to my new foster home. Settling in was no problem, thanks to my foster sister, Kona. We are everything best friends should be…peas in a pod, long lost sisters, bosom buddies and partners in crime. Highlights so far have been nightly walks and trips to the dog park, but my favorite has been snowshoeing. That snow stuff is so much fun. Kona has been a real pal, sharing everything with me. She recently showed me the joys of the tennis ball, but I prefer her bone, which we always seem to want at the same time. But not to worry, thanks to my foster mom I now have a bone of my own. MY OWN!
I have seen a couple doctors since my big move. First, I went back to see Dr. Hammond who did some tests to see if my eyes were ready for the surgery. After meeting with the doctor about my results, my foster mom told me that there were some abnormal images on the ultrasound of my eyes. Dr. Hammond recommended having another image taken by the best ultrasound vet in town, Dr. Layla Worth. Dr. Layla uses a very high tech machine that takes unbelievably clear images. My foster mom and I went to see Dr. Layla a couple weeks ago and I’m happy to announce that everything is A-OK so, I will be able to have my surgery very soon! I want to send a special ‘thank you’ to Dr. Layla who donated her services. I may have given her a couple kisses to sway her as well.
I am so grateful to all of you wonderful dog lovers who had a hand in granting me the chance to see again. I just want to say, “thank you” for all your hard work and donations. Because of all of you, my life will be forever enlightened. |
