Surrendering a Golden Retriever

You have a Golden Retriever, and for some reason you are unable or unwilling to keep him or her. Maybe you don't have the time to train a very energetic dog. Maybe someone in your family turned out to be severely allergic. Perhaps your dog needs more medical care than you can afford. Maybe you are moving somewhere you don't think is suitable for a Golden.

Whatever the reason, we aren't going to judge you.

We know that Golden Retrievers aren't for everyone. A dog that doesn't "fit" your lifestyle might be the perfect dog for another family.

Our goal is to find ideal forever homes for our dogs. You have our promise that we will do everything we can to make sure your dog is healthy, happy and loved. We have successfully re-homed over 1,500 Golden Retrievers.

We will contact you for additional information about your Golden, including its health and temperament. We want to know as much information as possible, good and bad. The more information we have, the more information we can pass along to an adopter. We will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have about GRRR and our adoption program. At that time we can make arrangments to have your Golden come into GRRR's adoption program.

This is what we will need from you:

You will be required to sign a document giving sole ownership of the dog to Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies.
We would appreciate any veterinary records you have on your Golden and other documents (i.e., AKC papers, obedience class information) to come with your Golden. If your Golden is currently being fed a prescription diet or special food, any you have remaining would be appreciated. Please include any prescription drugs that your dog is currently taking.

GRRR requests a minimum $20 donation at time of surrender to help with costs that we incur in caring for the Goldens during transition. If that donation is a financial hardship, that fee will be waived.
