Joey-1 year old (male) Adopted 1/24/21

Joey is a 1 year old golden retriever mix  who came into GRRR when he was not reclaimed after being found as a stray.  Joey is a very vibrant, affectionate and playful boy. The shelter thought Joey had been hit by a car and needed medical care that they were unable to provide.  GRRR said YES to having Joey come into our care.  They knew we would give him the medical care and find him a wonderful home where he would be loved.  Once Joey arrived he was given a medical exam, neuter and x-rays were done.  To everyone’s shock, Joey had been shot in his elbow and shrapnel was still in his leg.  Joey’s x-rays were sent to our orthopedic specialist, Dr. Bauer at Colorado Canine Orthopedics.  Dr. Bauer’s assessment of Joey’s x-rays were the same as Dr. Carpenter’s in that Joey’s leg couldn’t be fixed, his leg would have to be amputated.  Joey has been on pain medication since he arrived at GRRR from the shelter.  Joey has a lot of energy and really enjoys the other dogs in foster here.  Joey is scheduled to have his surgery the second week of January, which GRRR will pay for.  The recovery is not extensive and Joey should be up and back to being a happy puppy in no time.  Joey is looking for a home where he can receive the care, guidance/training and love that he deserves.  He is a very smart boy, but definitely a puppy who didn’t receive any training prior to coming to GRRR.  Joey needs his new family to love him and not feel sorry for him, instead teach him all the same things dogs with 4 legs can learn.  He is a very cute boy and it’s very tempting to let him get away with his silliness because of his cuteness.  But he will need training and leadership to be the good boy he wants to be.  If you think you would like to learn more about Joey or interested in meeting him for adoption, you will need to read our adoption process and then complete the online application.
